Dachshund Rescue NW
Pets of the Week

Name: Kooka (left) and Kitty
Kitty and Kooka

These are a matched pair, almost, of Dachshunds and five years old, fixed. They have been together since birth and we will not be splitting them up because they are best buddies.

Kookamunga is a small, standard-sized black and tan male sweetie. He is housebroke and happy. Just a tad fat so he has been on an instant diet since he arrived. He has some scars from past abuse, but it has not affected in him any way. He likes everyone and is a mellow boy who loves toys, too. He is the one with the blue collar in the above photo.

Kitty is Kooka's sister and she is a tiny girlie about 11 pounds. She has had some past abuse and has some scars to show it. But we won her over quickly with treats and letting her be a dog here. She hates being locked into a dog crate and turns into "Cujo" if locked up, so they would prefer being in your bed at night, of course. They do better in an ex pen if they have to be locked up for any reason. They are just fine with that open-air arrangement.

Kitty is also housebroke and a fun girlie. I have been carrying her all over the house and working on the bribes, which she is thoroughly enjoying. It only took her a day to settle in here so she has come through the past abuse well, but she will just not tolerate a crate. Kitty acts like someone hit her in one, so I am working on bribes in crates, too; and she is already coming around. She is so smart!

So, no children for these two and probably an adult home would be best. Kitty also hates cats so no kitties, please.

Even though these two had some past hard times, they are still a very happy couple of babies; so please consider giving them a home where they can romp and play for life. They will be playing here until we find them a family who will spoil them rotten.

There is an adoption fee of $300 for these dogs. No phone calls or emails, please. Please see our web site for details and to complete the application form for adoption.

Name: Buddy
Buddy

Meet Buddy – a puppy at only 15 months old. He is an active, playful and joyful guy who is having a ball with all our dogs. He is about a 13 pound guy and still needs to gain a couple pounds, but he plays so much so we are throwing the puppy food at him so he maintains his weight.

Buddy is a "Good Time Charlie" and always zooming and having a ball here. Plus he is very playful. He will need a toy budget in his new home because he is so much fun to play with and watch. My kind of doggy, but he can't stay so someone needs to adopt him as we are already falling in love with this fun puppy.

He was too much dog for them at their previous home and did not like their noisy, younger child, which is typical for this breed. She admitted she did not do any research before buying a wiener pup. So to rescue Buddy came so he could learn a few manners, but we find him delightful and full of life.

The fun one is almost completely housebroke so if you want a young active dog without all the work, then this cutie could be your new boy.

He adores toys and other dogs, so please do have a new dog buddy for him to play with in his new home. He will need someone who will continue his training, but he is not as much work as a very young pup and you still have all the fun. If you do not have a play dog friend for Buddy, you might also consider adopting Rock (see below), our other rescue. Rock and Buddy are now best of friends and they could find a home together because they like each other so much.

There is an adoption fee of $200 for Buddy. No phone calls or emails, please. Please see our web site for details and to complete the application form for adoption.

Name: Rock
Rock

Meet handsome Rock – a year old male now neutered, mini male. This boy is happy and loves to zoom so we are throwing the puppy chow at him. He is about 12 pounds now and should have a couple more pounds to be a small-framed, Tweenie-sized boy because he'll be all muscle when he is done growing. He was way too thin when he arrived, but now that he is fixed and we upped his food intake considerably, he is gaining weight nicely. He plays a lot with our dogs here.

Want a happy dog with a cool color? Then Rock is your boy. He is a blue merle dapple and looks very dark. Quite a photogenic little charmer, too. And he does have one blue eye and one brown eye.

His mom turned him into rescue because they were moving out of state, not because there was anything wrong with this very handsome guy. He is a mellow lap dog but also a zooming play puppy when it is play time. Rock gets along with all our other dogs, watches the cats too closely (which is typical of most in this breed) and adores his belly rubs. Quite the cuddly boy!

Rock is a bit shy when first meeting people, so he will need someone with a bit of patience while he is growing up. Once he knows folks, then he warms right up. He will need someone to work with for a few months so he will settle into his new life. He acts like a past abuse case and he took a bit of time to trust us and our company, but now he is calm, charming and quite the toy chaser and playful doggie.

Rock will need a buddy to play with in his new life. We will not adopt him alone to spend all day being bored again. If you do not have a play dog friend for Rock already, then you might also consider adopting our other rescue, Buddy (see above). Rock and Buddy are now best of friends and they could find a home together because they like each other so much.

We are working on making sure Rock is housebroke before he is placed, but because of his age he will need someone who will continue his house training once he leaves here.

Rock will need a fenced yard so he can run until he has some brains; THEN we train him. This dog is too active to be on a tether or in an apartment, as are all dachshund pups this age.

There is an adoption fee of $225 for Rock. No phone calls or emails, please. Please see our web site for details and to complete the application form for adoption.
