The railcar that is Knight’s Diner was actually built in 1906 by the Pullman Car Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Before being turned into a diner, this railcar served the Northern Pacific Railroad as car number 988. It was presented as a gift from President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to John (Jack) Knight, who was working as headwaiter at The Davenport Hotel at the time. In 1949 Knight renovated the car and started his own diner. The diner railcar was listed on the Spokane Register of Historic Places on July 8, 1991.
If you’re in the mood for old fashioned, down to earth diner meals, then Knight’s Diner is the place to go. We’ve heard they have the best hashbrowns in town.
