Will my ROM become obsolete?
In Addition
This may sound strange in the rapidly changing world of computer technology, but you don't have to worry about your ROM chips becoming obsolete.

ROM technology is a standard used by just about every manufacturer, and it has changed very little over the years, outside of advancements in programming the information on the chip. There are good reasons for this: ROM technology is inexpensive, and it has proven itself.

So it's a safe bet that any ROM "black boxes" in a new system or component won't become obsolete before the rest of the hardware does. But some improvements are still possible. For example, the amount of time it takes a CPU to get information off a ROM chip will probably continue to diminish.
